Adios Gretzky
If you read my last blog you know that Charity has had an unfortuante (a relative term... she didn't seem to mind as much as I did) run in with a pair of scissors. So, needless to say, her hair was looking pretty scary. Half Canadian hockey pro, and half beautiful french-braided princess... Not a great combo if you know what I am saying!!I thought maybe we would just wait a couple of weeks and let it grow before we went and got a "fix-er" hair cut, but I couldn't wait
that long!! We had afun outing to a cut little hair cut place for kids in la Jolla called Little Locks and got the remainder of Charity's little locks trimmed. Her new little cut is adorable... and short, which sometimes has me still shocked. But, she is cute as a button, and the chop job is far less noticable.

Getting totally spoiled by Troy's family, who are thrilled to see the kids... finally!! Charity is feeling a little under the weather today, but we are hoping it will pass quickly so we can continue all of our fun outings. Here are a few pics and a video of the sad cutting of Charity's hair.

Vacation Fiasco
A little Background before I get to the meat of this blog. We are in San Diego to visit Troy's family. We haven't been over here since July, so we were pretty excited to come over... and Troy's mom has been preparing as well, by putting in plug covers, gates, and putting clip locks on the bedroom doors (for a nosy Charity).
We decided to leave early so the kids would sleep as much of the ride as possible... After being in the travel mode for 6 hours as well as being extremely tired, we finally arrived at the house. During our unpacking of the car I was taking care of Josiah and thought that my mother in law had Charity. So we were all getting settled and we went down stairs and I was looking around thinking, "where is Charity?" Carol says, "I thought that she was with you." Oh no!!! I was thinking the worst, was she outside??
I called for Charity and we heard her in my mother in laws room, so Carol goes running up the stairs and hollers down that Charity is okay.
....do you hear a but coming? Yes, you do. She gave herself a SIDE MULLET!!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! She is definitly right handed! She reached right over, grabbed a bunch of her hair, and SNIP... nice and short. I am trying to remember that it is just hair... Oh well, right?
Let's hope this isn't a preview of how each day of our time here is going to be! I don't think I can handle 10 days like this one. Ending on a good note, we went to the zoo and had a great time. Here are a few pics of our darling dears new hair cut and our little misters time at the zoo.

Life Lessons
So, I have been having so much fun reading every one's blogs. They are so funny, and I always think..." my life is just not that funny". Well, today I experienced something worth labeling "funny".
Charity is extremely strong willed. Time out works sometimes, and other times a spanking, soap in the mouth, vinegar, going to her room, and a variety of "punishments to fit the crime". This is a story about a life lesson...
Wednesday's are playgroup days, so today started pretty normal. Wake up, get ready eat breakfast, etc. As we are getting ready to leave, I always make sure that I get Charity prepared to go in and use the potty (for some reason it is such a burden, she has to be prepared). So I stand in the bathroom as I am putting on make up and shout, "Charity, you'll come use the potty in a minute." Shockingly she comes running in and goes right away, and I am thinking, "great, we'll get out of the house on time!" So she hurry's up and goes, washes up and runs out of the bathroom. So I continue getting ready, get Josiah ready, and look at Charity. She has no pants on. So I tell her to go and get her pants and put them on. I put some things in the car and she still doesn't have her pants on. I go and get her pants, put them on the couch, tell her to get the on so we can go, and I go out and put the stroller in the trunk. I come in, and she still has no pants on. This happens a few more times.
At this point I am feeling a little frustrated, so I grab her and tell her we have to put pants on so we can go...well, you can guess that my strong willed child has decided that she would rather not wear her pants. She is enjoying her Princess Ariel panties that she got for Christmas, and they should not be covered by pants.
Now comes the life lesson. I have recently read "How to Make Your Child Mind Without Losing Yours, in which Kevin Leman explains that it is important to use experiences and natural consequences to teach lessons whenever possible, as opposed to spanking. So I am thinking, "Okay, fine, don't wear your pants. Its 50 degrees outside, and we are going to the park." So, I put her in the car in her panties and shirt and shoes. Off we go... I am happy because I am not stressed, we out of the house in time, and I am preparing myself to explain to people why my daughter is in her undies.
She had a great time running around in her panties. If it wasn't for Rachel and Abby, she might want to do this every day, but I think that Rachel explained in her role-model way that "big girls wear pants." Hopefully that did the trick!! Not sure if this worked out as a life lesson as I had hoped, but it was a great laugh. Fortunately there weren't many people out this morning, and I made sure that we did get those pants on... eventually.... before we went to the library!

New Year "News"
Here we are, well into the new year... 2009. I remember when 2009 was sssssssooooooo far into the future I thought I would surely be dead by then. But here we are, trucking along. This new year is bringing some fun "news".
Troy started his new job at the university yesterday. He is excited, and we are continuing to see God go before him in this job, assuring us that this is the path he has for Troy right now, which is awesome.
My new year is about making a cleaning schedule at the house, so assure that I have a clean house at all times... that will make me feel good. Notice I didn't say picked up, I do after all have 2 small tornadoes that follow me around undoing everything that I have just done. But they should be able to eat off the floor and the toilet seat at least once a week! gross. And when I am not cleaning the house, I'll be working on shedding these post baby pounds. Now I have some more accountability, hehehe.
Charity is moving quickly past the terrible two, which don't seem all that terrible when I am looking at the torturous threes. Over all, I have to say that she is a good girl... for other people, which makes me feel good to know she at least hears what I am saying.
Josiah is becoming a very active little guy!! He is standing all the time now and is a speed crawler. Makes us feel so good that he is doing so well.
Over all, we are so excited to see what God will do this new year. Happy 2009!
