Growing up I remember longing to be "A Grown-Up"... So I could stay up as long as I wanted, so I didn't have to do anymore chores, so I could stay home from school if I wanted to, and eat only dessert for dinner, getting to wear make-up, and well, just do what ever I wanted. And now I'm "A Grown-Up"... and I can say up as late as I want, which isn't so great as it turns out 'cause I am usually pretty tired the next day. I don't have to do chores... I have a whole house to clean!! I don't have to go to school... I have to work instead. I can eat dessert for dinner... knowing full well that I am going to have to work out for 2 hours just to counter act the deliciousness of the dessert or else face the fact that I am going to gain 10 pounds. I "get" to wear make-up now... I usually find that going out with out it causes people to ask me if I am tired or sick, so I try not to do that so much! So, maybe I was a tad disillusioned about what being an adult was all about and maybe growing up wasn't all it was cracked up to be (in my mind), but I do have the joy now of watching my own children grow up and see all the amazing things about childhood that I may not have noticed as a child. And maybe my kids will look at life and long for adulthood, but I hope that for now, I can help them embrace the joys of childhood. Playing in the sand box, dressing up and having tea parties, riding bikes, going to the park, wrestling, tickling, climbing, calling everyone that you meet a friend, going to the zoo, surprises, messy faces, play dough, make-up, being carried around, having someone read to you... I think this list could go on and on!!
