A Week With Grandpa
Blogging world has been a far off land this week. I've gotten on and read a few blogs here and there, but haven't had much time for writing. We have been privileged to have my father in law here all week with us.
He's been dragged around to all the fun events of the week... swimming lessons, meeting Charity's teacher for next year, "after swimming lessons" swimming at Papa's, BBQ-ing, and all the other hum drum stuff that goes on during the week.

It has been an especially tiring week as well. On Saturday the 17th, Troy and I went and heard Dr. Foster Cline speak on the book he co-authored, Parenting with Love and Logic. We felt so convicted when we left we instituted a no TV rule in the house. That has been especially rewarding, and tiring. We weren't watching a ton, but you don't realize how quickly it adds up. The kids have been doing so much better.
God has been especially good this week too. In the moments that I thought I might explode, he's been whispering the verses that I've memorized this summer. He sure does have a sense of humor.
Time to be done... I am so tired that I am falling asleep right here!! I really need to go and soak by desert dry feet in a warm tub too! Sounds so inviting!

A Memory for Today
It's 9:20 PM.
The kids are tucked in bed.
We had a wonderful day.
One of those days that I want to remember forever.
We did the normal morning routine, and off to swim lessons. A quick stop at the store, and then home for lunch and naps. While the kids slept I finished a scrapbook page, read, and looked at pictures. Josiah woke up first and wanted to snuggle. So I turned on "The Incredibles" (his favorite) and made the snuggles last a little longer!! When Charity finally woke up (after 3 hours!!!!) we got our swim suits on and headed over to Grammies and Grandpa's house for swimming and dinner.
My grandparents are very special to me. I love that my kids get to know them and play with them. When we go to their house, I am always filled with millions of memories. Memories that I want to share with the kids. As they make their own memories I sprinkle in a little here in there of things that I did when I was a kid... let them eat off the Sylvester spoon I always used, and sit on the yellow stool that we all used as kids until we could reach the table. I tell them about games we used to play in the pool, about how I used to swim in the same pool when I was small like them.

I treasure seeing my littles run up and hug Grammies and Grandpa! On July 4th I captured this sweet picture of the kids after swimming, playing Grammies piano. On the very spot that Grammies used to sit with me and teach me to play. Or when she would accompany me while I played my flute. On the piano are pictures of Grammies' parents. Generations meeting together.
I'm blowing this one up and framing it!
So, back to tonight... we swam and played the pool together. Aunt Catherine, Andrew, Phillip, and Grace came over too! Grandpa BBQ-ed hot dogs and hamburgers... Grammies filled us up with tomatoes from her garden and homemade mac-n-cheese. We finished off our meal with watermelon and jello. The perfect summer dinner. Of course we ate it outside in our wet bathing suits... the only way to tolerate the 117 degree day!
Not sure if any of this made sense... I love days that leave you so full of memories and happy that it's hard to articulate it all.

A Little Trip
112 Degrees outside.
78 Degrees inside.
There is laundry to take out of the dryer and fold.
The dishwasher needs to be emptied.
The floor needs to be mopped again after a certain Mr., who will remain nameless, took the lid off the agave nectar and spilled it all over the pantry floor.
The kids want to go to the zoo. Okay. The other stuff can wait.
Here's what we saw at the zoo...

Here's what we saw at the zoo...
The petting zoo.
Bird of Prey
The Insect House
The Monkey Exhibit
The Cats... A Lion, Tiger, and the Jaguar
An elephant of course!
The aquarium, fish and a sea turtle.
The wild dogs.
The rodent.
A rare collection of bears.
The endangered short necked giraffe.
We bought tickets at the front door and rode the tram.
So glad we took time to go the zoo today.

His Banner Over Me
Not much of a story today.
Just a woman standing before the throne of grace in awe of all that she has been blessed with.
He has taken me to the banquet hall, and his banner over me is love. Song of Solomon 2:4
0216-0229
Holding a brand new baby.
Watching re-runs of I Love Lucy
Laying down to sleep after a great but tiring day.
Seeing the few plants in my garden that are still alive ... hopefully we'll do better once summer is over!!
Renewed strength...will over emotions.
Determination
Hope
A God that sees a masterpiece in my chaos
Grace
3 weeks left of school for Troy
Familiar scripture made fresh. We had a great message this weekend at church on Luke 15 given by Pastor Chris Seay from Huston, TX.
A Snake in the road that makes my husband and kids excited. (I have a picture of that, but the guy that was behind us ran over the snake, so the guts are squeezing out.... eeeewwwww! This did not bother my kids.)
Possibilities.

My Little Ballerina
For the last 8 Saturdays Charity has been taking a Fairytale Ballet class. So cute!! Here are a few videos from her recital this morning.
Sleeping Beauty is wearing purple in the back row.
Here is the one other dance... not sure where Sponge Bob Square Pants enters a Fairytale ballet... but none the less...

Roller Coaster
A few weeks ago I was asked to describe my life as an inanimate object.
Initially I picked a rocking chair. As life moves and moves and I don't feel like I am going anywhere. Same stuff going on. I think I was in a really rutty mood.
I've changed my mind. I would describe my life as a roller coaster.
Last night as I was chatting with God about the day, begging for forgiveness for my lack of patience and in the next breath, thanking Him for the glorious time that I had with the kids.
I don't think that God has a "prescribed" way to spend time with him. He desires a relationship with me. As I sort through when I can sit, I am trying to meditate on scripture, have a good attitude (still working on that one- especially when "Hyde" comes to visit), and read good books.
Right now I am reading Having a Mary Heart in a Martha World, by Joanna Weaver, and doing the Frazzled Female Bible Study, by Cindi Wood. I recently finished He Speaks to Me, by Priscilla Shirer, and Hearing God's Voice in Psalm 23, by JoAnne Heim.

I feel like Jekyll and Hyde!!
Laughing with the kids and then 3 spilled cups and a huge mess later I am feeling completely frazzled. Having an amazing morning with the kids and then wondering if I am going to make it to the end of the day with out losing my mind. (this list could go on....)
I know that my roller coaster is not too much for God.
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. " Matthew 11:28-19
What so I do?
Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Matthew 6:33
You ever notice that when God is trying to teach you something He makes it come up everywhere...in conversation, in the message that you hear at church on Sunday, the theme of your morning devotional, the thing that your friend randomly brings up on the phone?
If that's never happen to you, this entire post is just silliness. But if it has, you know... It's amazing and frustrating all at the same time.
Amazing in that you can't mistake that it's the voice of the Almighty God, creator of the universe, beginning and the end, ever present, sacrificial savior speaking into your life. So humbling to be loved so much that HE would want to have a relationship with ME.
Frustrating that He keeps telling me the same thing over and over again. I thought I was making progress... but it is still coming at me like a hammer! "Am I learning anything, Lord?" (there's some more roller coaster feelings!!)
So what is He hammering at me right now?
"Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth." Psalm 46:10
The discipline of stillness.
Sitting at the savior's feet. listening. and waiting. for his. still. small. voice. a mere whisper.
See, I know, because I have heard it before. When I shut-up all the noise in my head the Lover of my Soul is waiting, like a gentleman, to speak.
To give me peace.
To comfort me.
To renew and restore me.
To give me patience.
My battle is when?
In the morning?
At naps?
At night time?
This season of life brings the challenge of time of quiet and alone. There isn't much of it. Part of me really wants to be getting up in the morning, before the house is bustling, and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, and read my Bible and pray. Satisfy us in the morning with your unfailing love, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days. Psalm 90:14 Not sure if I can get up that early!!
So I try nap time, which seems most days to work well. The only hang up is that the Martha in me wants to use that time to get the house cleaned, get dinner started, work on the laundry, and maybe mop the floors when the little feet are resting.
I try the evenings. On my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night. Psalm 63:6 I'm just plain tired then. Tuckered out from the day. Wanting to spend time with my hubby.

Seeing any repetition?
But I will not be of faint heart. No! I know that joy comes in the morning. It may not be tomorrow, or the next day. But I know that if I ask God to teach me how to be still, even in this roller coaster season, that He is faithful to complete the good work that He started in me. I am hungry for time with Him, I just need to get the recipe for how to get it from the Maker himself.
"But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus." Philippians 3:13-14
How do you practice the discipline of stillness?

My Life in Excel
Holiday weekend!! I am so excited. One extra day with Daddy at home!
We have all kinds of plans heading into the weekend...
I came home from running errands today to find it all on an hour by hour spreadsheet made with love by my hubby!
We have all kinds of plans heading into the weekend...
(Last 4th of July)
- Toy Story 3- will be Josiah's first movie. He is a bit younger than Charity was the first time we took her, but I think he'll do okay. He LOVES Buzz and Woody!
- Trip to Amazing Jakes, which is kind of an indoor theme park. Should be fun, and the kids are going to have a blast.
- The normal weekend stuff- Levite on Saturday morning, Charity's fairytale ballet class, Swimming and BBQ-ing, and of course a little homework time for Troy!
- 4th of July at Grammies and Grandpa's for swimming and BBQ-ing.
- Fire works at Big League Dreams
I came home from running errands today to find it all on an hour by hour spreadsheet made with love by my hubby!
Kinda funny, huh? Well, pretty normal around here. Our monthly budget and finances are in Excel, our vacation plans, our house projects list... pretty much everything somehow makes it into an Excel spreadsheet. Hehehe! I guess we are pretty nerdy. Well, mostly Troy, but since Biblically speaking two become one, I am lumped in with the martian man. Love you, Babe!!
Looking forward to a great 4th of July weekend!
Anyone else have plans? Or Excel usage problems?

I was beginning to wonder if she was remembering much once we left... but she blew us away today with how well she did! Papa, Grandma and Daddy were there to watch her this morning. It delighted her to have them there to see all that she has been working so hard at! I guess mommy and brother are old news!!
Since Monday morning started with the shattering of glass all over the kitchen floor I didn't get to writing my gratitude list this week... so here it is...
